There is a tripping switch in the fan.when the fan trip,it can turn off by itself. 
2.high tempture safeguard
There is a temperature fuse in the fan. It can be damaged by itself if the temperature is very high,so that ensure the fan can work safe.After then what you do is only to change a fuse.

Maintain
Keep up Fan cleaning,using mull wipe off dirt with soap.Pay attention to not using oil, benzene or othes menstrum when clean the fan's plastic.
Please drop down a little of 20# oil on the fan every year so that the fan can be worked safe. Be sure to clean up the fan before depositaring it with plastic bag.
